ODE TO N.O.
From Monty Python's Holy Grail:
"When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built in all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. And that's what you're going to get, Lad, the strongest castle in all of England."
On another note...it may be insensitive, but I think that maybe this new hurricane Rita should hit New Orleans. Since the city is already destroyed and has lost much of its infrastructure, I feel that it would be better for it to take another beating than for the hurricane to hit another major city center or area such as Houston or Galveston. I compare this to a situation that you could find in a battle or war. If the enemy has destroyed one of your tanks, wouldn't you much rather it hit that tank again than to hit one that is operational? Also, consider the fact that New Orleans is already for the most part evacuated. It would be a benefit to our country as a whole for Rita to follow the path of Katrina. It would save money and lives from my perspective, all sensitivity aside.
1 Comments:
I don't think the psychological consequences would be any worse than they already are. The city was (in general) levelled to the ground and additionally was depopulated.
IMO, more psychological damage, in number of people affected, is worse than more psychological damage to someone who is already devastated.
I guess to sum it up, I think the effect on quantity is more important to prevent than quality.
